What do you love most about mahjong?
The community! I have met so many new friends and feel supported and accepted for my unique creations. I have been playing since my oldest daughter was a baby and she is 28 now!
Why did you decide to start your own brand?
Mahj by Lori began with Lori’s (that’s me!) love of art and American Mahjong. After retiring from a career as a firefighter, she began painting and dreaming up colorful designs meant to bring creativity and joy to the Mahjong table.
Each mat is created from her original artwork and designed to feel like a small piece of art you can play on.
Having had to retire from the fire department left me searching to find myself again. I feel like I have found ME in Mahjong!
What is special about your products?
They are unique and all started as a painting on a canvas.
Tell us about your design process.
Each mat design first starts as a painting on a canvas and then makes its way as art on your table! The tile designs are all hand drawn and then sent to manufacturing to be made into tiles engraved and painted.
Can you tell us about a business challenge you’ve experienced and how it was solved or handled?
Getting the products I ordered in a timely fashion. The tiles were supposed to arrive in June and now it looks like late Summer. They will be worth the wait though!
